This past Saturday morning Patrick Earl Hammie’s exhibition Equivalent Exchange was deinstalled. By comparison, taking down exhibitions is ridiculously fast compared to the many hours that are necessary to install the exhibition. In this case, it was just a matter of taking the paintings off the wall, and then walking them out the door into a moving truck. The last stage is patching the walls with spackle to cover up holes made in the wall from the nails, and some quick sanding to keep the walls neat.
We are pleased to have had this opportunity to work with Patrick on this exhibition; the exhibition was enthusiastically received on campus and generated a very strong response. One person in the guestbook commented that they made a “daily pilgrimage” to view his exhibition.
As we approach the end of the academic year, the gallery will shift its focus to artworks being displayed and presented for tomorrow’s campus wide Ruhlman Conference, during which faculty and students collaborate across disciplines to enhance the intellectual life of the college. The gallery then ends the year with “Again and Again: Senior Thesis Exhibition.”
