I’m almost finished booking Applied Arts Workshops for the spring 2010 semester.  I’m pleased to announce a Ceramic Mosaics workshop coming up on Feb. 20, 2010.

The workshop will be led by Kate Oggel, a ceramicist who currently  lives and  works in Rhode Island. Oggel has a wonderful technique for creating handmade mosaics:  she rolls out huge slabs of ceramic clay and scores them to create the shapes of the mosaics.  The scored slabs of clay are then glazed with many different colors and then fired in a kiln. When the slabs of clay come out of the kiln, the fired clay is easily broken off into neatly cut mosaics. The results are beautiful and unique. Below are student examples of mosaic designs using Oggel’s technique.
