Workshop Description
This workshop is an introduction to the basic techniques of Chinese calligraphy. The first part of the workshop will consist of combining ancient calligraphy with Mike Mei’s contemporary style, showing the five main scripts, providing an understanding of the history and development of Chinese calligraphy. The second part of the workshop will consist of writing the five different styles showing the evolution of the characters, and finishing a calligraphy artwork from the beginning to the end.

Instructor Biography
Mike Mei is a freelance artist and a Chinese calligraphy educator. Mei has given lectures at Harvard, MIT, The Art Institute of Boston, Bradley College, University of Massachusetts, and Holy Cross.  His biography has been listed in the Dictionary of the Achievements of World-Chinese Artists as well as ten other dictionaries. His calligraphy pieces have been collected by The Peabody Art Museum and The Worcester Art Museum. He has won numerous awards for his work both in China and in the United States.
