Workshop Description

This mixed media painting workshop will provide a brief introduction to acrylic painting, understanding the properties of acrylic paint and the multitude of accompanying acrylic mediums. Then, expand into experimental techniques such as staining, marbling, dripping, splattering, ink and graphite dispersion, breaking away from a more traditional approach to painting. Students will gain a new approach to painting as they experiment with paint, ink, drawing media on various surfaces like canvas, mylar and masonite.


Instructor Biography

James Harrison is a Californian who graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2011 from the printmaking department. He works as the store manager of RISD 2nd Life, a nonprofit upcycling art supply store, and RISD Expose, a student curated gallery space, both located in downtown Providence. His free time is spent building an in-house printmaking studio for RISD 2nd Life, painting in his studio located in Olneyville and playing with cats.
